So we are all probably familiar with Sugaree from Cutting Edge Solutions, this is their new ‘flavor.’ No doubt the magic cotton-candy raspberry heaven smell from Sugaree is epic, I have been using it in my grows ever since the first sample I received more than three years ago. This is a new one for the line, and it works exceptionally well.
Sour-Dee, newest flavor and aroma enhancer from Cutting Edge
The best testimony is simply quoting one of my best friends when I had presented him a harvest finished with SourDee. “Dude… what did you do differently?!? It’s always amazing… but now it’s like more amazing!” Developing an intense flavor profile in your favorite fruits and vegetables is how you shine among your peer farmers. We are all good at making a beautiful shiny fruit….. but… how does it taste? How does it smell? =] Sour-Dee infuses your fruits and flowers with a piney-fresh sour hoppy flavor profile, guaranteed to take your taste buds to the next level. “Hello ten, meet eleven.”
Much like Sugaree, Sour-Dee focuses on different tannins, flavonoids, aromatic esters and essences to produce different savory profiles. Sour-Dee provides an organic carbohydrate and electrolyte source to stimulate amino acid production and adds carbohydrates at the end of the flowering season. In my sweeter fruits I didn’t notice a big difference from Sugaree, but with my hops and sour piney tomatoes, the difference was clear. I grow in a Hydroponics ebb & flow bucket system, the flavor and aroma is especially amazing considering it wasn’t grown in soil!
Sour-Dee is a hops best friend!
The formulation contains a low molecular weight sugar source with an emulsion of trace minerals. This combination acts as a compensator as lowering light levels at the end of flowering precipitate drops in photosynthetic rate and ATP production, the molecular currency of of energy production.
ATP is a plant sugar nucleotide composed of the nitrogenous base adenine, the pentose sugar ribose and three phosphate radicals. The phosphate bond contains about 12,000 calories of energy per mole of ATP under the physical conditions of the body. In photosynthesis, ATP is synthesized from the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast cells of plants. Photons from sunlight or grow-lamps excite the chloroplast membrane, which in turn converts this excitation into ATP’s chemical energy.

These additional carbohydrates provide the plant with the energy it requires to drive fruit creation all the way until harvest. Science has proven plants are only able to uptake these simple sugars in the final weeks of their fruit-set. When your plant is nearing the finish line at seasons’ end, it’s leaves turn yellow which directly results in a slow-down of sugar production. You only need to use Sour-Dee or Sugaree in the last three week or so before harvest.
Sour-Dee and Sugaree’s organic formulation provides increases in fruit-set and sugar production when your plant would normally decide that the season is over and work is done. Professional athletes have perfected the concept of ‘Carbo-Loading’ their diets before endurance competitions. Our water here in Southern California is full of contaminants and dissolved solids. Growing with mountain runoff tap-water with over 400-600 PPM is troublesome. The tap water (hard water) is full of things gardeners don’t want, and a few that we do. The guys at Hydroponic Research did all the work and customized around the water flowing from your own tap.

San Diego hydroponics gardeners have a great alternative for Humboldt County’s Own Gravity Flower Hardener that has recently been banned for sale in the state of California. Alaska Pure is now available for sale at our store in south bay at Gorilla Gardener Supply San Diego.
Alaska Pure from Nutrifield of Australia is an excellent replacement for Gravity and it contains no hormones or plant growth regulators (PGR’s).

Alaska Pure is a total flowering optimizer containing a rich source of potassium, derived from one of the World’s most nutrient-rich Kelp’s. Potassium directly effects the production of Chlorophyll, and the storage and movement of carbohydrates in plants. Carbohydrates are important as they create higher Brix (sugar) levels, which will optimize the weight of your yield. This product is designed for hydroponics use only.
We have just completed our second full flower test run with Alaska Pure as a flower hardener. Happily we announce that we have finally found a natural and safe alternative that works incredibly well! This is a great replacement for the California banned products like Phosphoload, Dr. Nodes, Flower Dragon, and Bloombastic. Alaska Pure is made of all natural Alaskan Kelp, Ascophylium Nodosum Kelp.
Our first trial run we ran half strength dose of 5-7 ML per gallon for the last 5 weeks of bloom. For our second trial run we ran full strength at 11-15 ML per gallon. Both runs produced fantastic results when run with our base nutrient line Cutting Edge Solutions. Very solid, hard flower growth with no negative effects.
Alaska Pure alternative available in South Bay San Diego Gorilla Gardener Supply
One very interesting result as well, my reservoir pH tended to stay more stable when using the Alaska Pure. I have no idea why, but the standard pH jog from the organic Calcium supplement Plant Amp from Cutting Edge was very slight. I had to use much less pH down to maintain the 5.3 – 5.5 range I like to run.

I have begun testing the Rock Resinator Heavy Yields after seeing two other beta test gardeners results. I was actually astounded by the resin production this supplement created. This is a competitor product to something like Snow Storm Ultra or Bloombastic -and from what I have seen- the clear winner. The crystal production in oil bearing crops in jaw dropping!

This will be my very first test run with Resinator but I am confident with the results I have seen thus far to move forward. One thing I really like is the idea that I can keep my reservoir aerated without potentially building up bad bacteria. If you have any experience with Resinator please post your findings!

By using these products your plant will host millions of tiny feeder roots that work like the millions of tiny channels in our lungs. The more lung volume, the more oxygen you can hold. Take a look at some great roots we popped up with a recent batch of clones. We soaked Grodan 1.5″ cubes and G.H. Rapid Rooter plugs in pure Reverse Osmosis water that has been off-gased for 48 hours. We used 10 ml / gallon and pH balanced the water to 5.5 for hydroponics application. Also a quick note we suggest that you NEVER use Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) in your reservoir or even as a cleaning product. Hydrogen Peroxide KILLS all these beautiful beneficial organisms you are introducing into your grow medium! Leave the bleach for Kelly Bundy’s platinum hair, not your roots.

As you can see the G-Rex beneficial organisms have created a web of microscopic tentacles that increase the root systems ability to uptake nutrients. Beneficial fungi & Trichoderma also work to break down and recycle organic material to keep the roots healthy white and robust. The beneficial fungus works in a symbiotic relationship with the plant and the medium it is growing in. Various species of Endomycorrhizal Fungi (Mycorrhizae), Trichoderma, & Bacillus species are precisely blended to colonize the largest possible root mass, maximizing the harvest production of your plants.
The microscopic fungi receive sugar from the roots, in exchange they penetrate far deeper into the soil to absorb and send nutrients back to the plant. When those nutrients are depleted, the beneficial organisms simply reach further into the soil for more. Farmers using aggressive amounts of beneficial bacillus and fungi have found up to a 20% increase in fruit yield when used with normal nutrient schedules, at the same time saving money by using up to 20% less nutrients.

The organisms create life in otherwise lifeless mediums like Rockwool, Hydroton (expanded clay), old depleted ‘dead’ potting soil or store-bought pasteurized soils. The medium you buy is lifeless, no beneficial bacteria and fungus to break down and use the decaying roots. Using beneficial organisms provides a great tactic to avoid Pythium Disease aka ‘Root Rot.’
It’s up to you the farmer to provide where mother nature is not available, these beneficials are found throughout the Earth’s Rhizosphere. The worlds largest living organism is a huge fungus that is believed to be approximately 8,500 years old and covers nearly four square miles (10 Km) of forest floor!

I haven’t had a chance to use the G-Rex as a clone rooting gel, but they claim you can skip using something like Clonex Cloning Gel, Dip n Grow, or Olivia’s Organic Cloning Gel. The next time I am taking clones I will label a special section that will only be soaked in G-Rex and no cloning hormones and see what happens, I’ll post up the results when I get to it! One customer said he tried it with Rapid Rooter plugs and every single one rooted healthy and fuzzy.
T-Rex is only used for rooted clones, vegging plants and regenerating a tired mother plant. Do not use in flower or your plants will never stop stretching! Our recently transplanted new generation of Mother plants have exploded with growth after a few treatments.
